Research Assistant Professor (two posts) (Ref. 20052703)

The  Department  of  Mechanical  Engineering  is  one  of  the  three  founding  departments  of  the University  since  1937  and  one  of  the  seven  academic  units  in  the  Faculty  of  Engineering.  Its world-class faculty and internationally reputed programmes draw students from across the globe. It  offers  academic  programmes  at  both  undergraduate  and  postgraduate  levels,  over  a  large spectrum  of  topics  including  combustion  and  pollution  control, fluid-structure  interactions, materials  and  mechanics,  sound  and  vibration,  control  and  robotics,  clean  energy  technologies, aeronautical  engineering,  product  design  and  development.   Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/me for more information about the Department.  

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; 

(b)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; 

(c)    contribute to departmental service; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in a related discipline;

(b)    have relevant post-qualification experience and a good track record of research in but not limited to one or more of the following areas:

-    Mechanics and Materials (advanced structure materials & smart manufacturing including 3D printing);
-    Control, Acoustics and Dynamics (robotics & AI, noise & vibration control, structure health monitoring); and
-    Thermofluids and Combustion (aeronautical engineering, combustion and pollution control);

(c)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointment will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
