(Level A) $70,346 to $94,588 per annum plus an employer contribution of 9.5% superannuation will apply

Fixed term Research position available at 0.5FTE for up to 24 months

This position is funded by NHMRC and ARC Discovery grants which consider the introduction of technology into the provision of healthcare

Available from June 2020 this position will focus on the legal dimensions of two projects. The NHMRC Ideas Grant is entitled “The algorithm will see you now: ethical, legal and social implications of adopting machine learning systems for diagnosis and screening”, and the ARC Grant, “Support or Sales? Medical Device Representatives in Australian Hospitals”, therefore a background in health law is desirable.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the chief investigator on the following activities:

• A review of relevant legal frameworks
• Exploration and analysis of regulatory theory
• Liaise with diverse research team
• Completion of research papers
• Dissemination of research through conference presentations

The projects are collaborative and multi-disciplinary in nature with collaborators located in different locations. The legal component of both projects will inform the qualitative and quantitative research undertaken by other Chief Investigators requiring the successful applicant to liaise and work with a widely spread, multi-disciplinary team.

To be successful you will need:

• A PhD (or evidence of submission of PhD for examination) in social science, social health, economics, or law, or experience of equivalent standing
• An undergraduate Law Degree
• Demonstrated research capacity (publications, conference papers, reports) which provide evidence of research and writing ability, and potential for future development
• Ability to interpret, summarise and prepare technical reports and contribute to the preparation of academic journal articles
