Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute - Residues and Resource Reclamation Centre (NEWRI - R3C) is looking for a Research Fellow to support the research for the project titled: Development of a sustainable treatment process for sludge.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise on environmental and structural performances of waste residues (leaching behaviour, geotechnical properties etc.)
  • Design the sampling protocols and analytical methods applicable for different types of waste residues
  • Conduct techno-economic analysis, cost-benefit study and LCA of the incineration and high-temperature slagging gasification of sludge
  • Design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments in the laboratory and the co-treatment (on-site) of municipal solid waste (MSW) and sludge at Waste-to-Energy Research Facility (WTERF)

Job Requirements

  • PhD degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry or related disciplines
  • Experience in thermochemical conversion processes, heavy metals leaching, environmental impact and life cycle assessment, fate and transport analysis, geotechnical testing, ash/slag treatment and upcycling

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
