Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Design) (PR0376/19-20)

The Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) is the first university academy of its kind in Hong Kong, providing professional visual arts undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programmes linked to international exchange and the fast-growing creative industries. AVA is committed to nurturing creative and professional talent of international renown and strives to provide the very best in visual arts education, combining studio-based research, critical and historical studies and sustainable service for the cultural and creative sectors as well as for the community at large.

We are looking for an Associate Professor / Assistant Professor to extend teaching, research and practice in object design, cross-disciplinary design and prototyping, with an emphasis on sustainable design. The primary teaching focus will be on delivering undergraduate courses in 3D design and prototyping as well as supervision of individual student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He/She will have access to the specialised facilities, studios and workshops as well as the broader and expanding research platform at AVA and the University. The successful applicant will work alongside staff in the Academy and take an active part in organising student projects and coordinating associated programmes (workshops, guest lectures, conferences, exhibitions, screenings, etc.). He/she will also work in connection with AVA’s academic programmes at different levels as well as our international Artist-in-Residence Programme.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, and have a keen interest in design teaching, practice and research demonstrated by his/her professional experience. Those without a doctoral degree but with a strong academic background will also be considered. Records of successful grant applications or project funding will be a definite advantage.

Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and mutual agreement.  

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
