Job Details
The Asian School of the Environment is seeking a Research Fellow to join a new research laboratory on Resilient and inclusive cities in Asia-Pacific. The successful candidate will conduct new research on the impact of urban growth on biodiversity and ecosystem services in the region. This research leverages recent global efforts on the technical front (development of spatially explicit datasets of urban growth) and the policy front (development of global scenarios for biodiversity).
Job Responsibilities:
- Review major characteristics of urban growth in Asia and the Pacific
- Develop regional scenarios of urban growth responding to regional and global demographic and policy drivers
- Conduct a spatially explicit assessment of the regional scenarios on biodiversity and ecosystem services in urban centers of the region
- Lead the publication of a high-level report on urban growth, in collaboration with regional and global collaborators
- Strengthen and develop new collaborations with academic groups, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders involved in such efforts
Job Requirements:
- PhD in urban ecology, environmental science or engineering, or related field
- Experience with spatially explicit environmental modeling
- Interest in producing impactful and decision-relevant work
- Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS software and/or processing remotely sensed products
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications skills
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience working in Asia-Pacific and with diverse non-academic audiences
- Experience developing models in environmental engineering or science
- Experience with programming languages or applications (MatLab, R, python)
- Experience supervising interns or undergraduate research assistants
- International travel experience and foreign language skills (in particular regional languages)

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.
The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility:
• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university.
Terms and Conditions:
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
