Position Focus:

Assists in the development of processes for neuroimaging analysis and completes neuroimaging analyses.  Processing of structural MRI, as well as preprocessing of DTI and fMRI images. Performs analyses of PET images including pharmacokinetic modeling. Performs vital signs, phlebotomy and electrocardiograms on research subjects. Assists in the preparation of protocols, protocol renewals, amendments and all related documentation and materials for submission to the Human Investigation Committee. Enters and modifies data in computerized database. Assists in writing and editing material for publication and presentation.

Essential Duties

  1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
  2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
  3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.
  4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
  5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.
  6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven proficiency with neuroimaging programming skills and ability to develop MRI and PET imaging processing pipelines.
Demonstrated ability to script using the programming language IDL Proficiency with Matlab for image processing and statistical analysis. Demonstrated ability with FreeSurfer software for MRI and PET brain imaging analyses

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and ability with databases. Self-motivated with good organizational skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to perform vital signs, phlebotomy and electrocardiograms on research subjects (will be trained). Ability to pack laboratory specimens for shipment.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to Process and summarize data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Self-motivated with good organizational skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to clearly communicate with individuals with cognitive impairment. Sensitivity to and patience with elderly subjects. Ability to work as a team member.Solid foundation and understanding of (Neuro) scientific principles.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree Psychology, Neurobiology, Biology or in a related field is strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Candidates with availability for more than 1 year as this study will more than likely last longer.
