Senior Energy Lab Researcher, UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 29 months (to 31/12/2022)

Applications are invited to apply for the post of Senior Researcher for the Integrated Energy Lab at UCD.

This post is part of the PANTERA (PAN European Technology Energy Research Approach) project
PANTERA is an EU Horizon 2020 project that looks at delivering a multi-dimensional platform of information, tools and training to help accelerate Research and Innovation in the area of smart grids to shape the energy systems of the future. PANTERA is coordinated by University of Cyprus (FOSS) and UCD Energy Institute is as partner along with European Distributed Energy Resources Laboratories e.V (Germany), RSE SPA (Italy), SINTEF (Norway), SUITE5 (Cyprus), IERC, Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria). The IE Lab plays a pivotal role in UCD Energy Institute's contribution to PANTERA whereby the successful candidate will coordinate and support the activities of PANTERA within the Institute.

Energy Systems Integration Partnership Programme (ESIPP) is an €11m project co-funded by Science Foundation Ireland, industry and philanthropic donation. This collaborative project is located in the UCD Energy Institute and spans a number of disciplines, such as Electrical, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Consumer Behaviour and Technology Adoption. The ESIPP programme focuses on Energy Systems Integration (ESI) and seeks to optimise the energy system and other large scale infrastructures, in particular water, by leveraging the synergies across all scales and pathways (i.e. electricity, fuels & heat). ESIPPs is led by University College Dublin and partners with Dublin City University (DCU), Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), National University of Galway (NUIG) and Trinity College Dublin (TCD) with strong collaborative links to major energy industry players, such as AIB, EirGrid, Ervia, ESB, Glen Dimplex and SSE. The IE Lab was established in partnership with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) whereby researchers work side-by-side with partners (utilities, system operators, multinational companies, SMEs and start-ups, state agencies and other international laboratories) to investigate, develop and demonstrate cutting-edge solutions to important global energy challenges.

The Energy Institute is the hub for energy research and innovation in UCD and offers a dynamic team orientated environment. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with academics both within UCD and across Europe as well as leading Irish and international companies. The successful candidate will provide the technical expertise within the IE Lab and manage and support PANTERA activity while developing an independent programme of research in lab related data science.

Salary: €40,000 - €55,000 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
