The Role

The Marketing and Management Department at Durham University Business School seeks to appoint an PDRA researcher to the Creative Fuse North East 2.0 (fuse 2.0) project with research interests in the broad field of creative business, policy reform, education and the rural economy.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of the Marketing and Management Department's research working with the Fuse 2.0 Durham project team and the successful candidate will be expected to make significant contributions to the outreach and impact of the project.

Main purpose of the role

The role of the research associate will be to undertake research that: supports the needs of the region's creative industries; enhances Fuse2.0's commitment to diversity and inclusion, knowledge exchange and skills development; and advances our understanding of the creative industries in the utilisation and knowledge about technology.

This will be done by undertaking key business development work, primary and secondary research, synthesising existing scholarship, identifying best practice and working with partner universities to identify research needs. This will be a role for someone who is familiar with the creative businesses and research about them, and has qualitative research skills (quantitative research skills would also be beneficial). Knowledge of the CDIT sector, their working practices and challenges and/or the geographies (particularly regional knowledge and experience) of the creative industries would be an advantage.

A critical understanding of the creative businesses in County Durham will be key in this role and the post would suit someone with a background in business and management studies, human geography, sociology, or similar disciplines.

Specific aspects of the role include:

  • Collating and adding value to existing research about the screen industries' equality, diversity and
  • inclusion challenges, skills gaps, and knowledge exchange and innovation requirements
  • Survey and report on the needs of organisations in CDIT sector
  • Generation and execution of individual and collaborative research projects to enhance our
  • understanding of working practices in the creative industries
  • To produce academic papers, sector reports, and conference papers
  • Supporting the delivery of research commissioning activity including theme identification, funding call design and evaluation of research proposals
