The Open University of Hong Kong invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President (Students and Support).

The University
Established by the Hong Kong Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong today is the largest self-financing university in Hong Kong and has developed into a dynamic, innovative, full-fledged university comprising 6 Schools.

The University began offering full-time programmes since 2001 and joined the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS) since 2007.  Currently, the University offers about 200 programmes of studies with over 10,000 full-time and 9,000 part-time students in its 5 Schools namely School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, School of Nursing and Health Studies and School of Science and Technology.  In addition, there are about 2,000 full-time and 3,000 part-time students studying in Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE).

The Position

The University is looking for a person of high calibre to lead and provide strategic oversight to the University particularly in the areas of student support and academic services.  The appointee will join the senior management team in developing and formulating directions, strategies and policies with a view to advancing the University’s vision, mission and objectives. 

The appointee shall report to the President and be responsible for leading the planning and development of student support and developmental activities as well as educational and information technology.  He/she shall build and foster relationships across University offices and among student societies to ensure that student needs are prioritized and goals of student success are achieved, focusing on enhancing student engagement, students’ personal growth and career development.  He/she shall also be visionary and forward-looking in leading the advancement and utilization of technology in enriching students’ learning experience and enhancing operational efficiencies.  In addition, he/she shall oversee a number of Units/Offices including Student Affairs, Educational Technology and Development, Information Technology and Library, and undertake major projects as required.

Requirements

Candidates should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • A recognized higher degree, and substantial relevant leadership and management experience at a senior level in the higher education sector, preferably with a proven track record in managing student development and academic support activities;
  • Good understanding and insight of the student needs as well as the latest trend in the development of educational/information technology in the higher education sector;
  • Dynamic leadership, broad vision, strategic foresight, high integrity and sound judgment;
  • Excellent people, interpersonal and management skills; and
  • High level of language proficiency both in English and Chinese including Putonghua.

Remuneration Package

Competitive compensation package including basic salary, composite cash allowance, end-of-contract gratuity and discretionary incentive (if any) will be offered to the right candidate. Fringe benefits such as generous annual leave, staff learning and development sponsorship, medical & dental benefits and life insurance coverage will also be provided.
