Job Description Summary
The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. He/She will assist the Principal Investigator and play a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of specific area of study and will play a crucial role both in all aspects of research products including development, implementation, and data analysis. In the development stage, the SRI will assess proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design. In the implementation stage, he/she will supervise and perform the project. This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writings for submission.
This is a full-time Research Scientist position with the Behavioral Science & Analytics For Injury Reduction (BeSAFIR) Lab at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. The BeSAFIR lab is a core research program that bridges the Penn Injury Science Center, the Center for Health Incentives Health Incentives and Behavioral Economics, and Center for Emergency Care and Policy Research. The BeSAFIR Lab, led by M. Kit Delgado, MD, MS conducts research with large U.S. auto-insurance companies, a multi-hospital health system, and uses many state and national databases for secondary data analyses. Ongoing studies supported with multiple federal and foundation grants include testing smartphone interventions for reducing distracted driving, alcohol impaired driving, and electronic health record interventions for encouraging evidenced based care to reduce the risks of opioid overdose. The Research Scientist will co-lead projects involving the development, testing, and evaluation of the effects of behavioral interventions for injury prevention including reducing motor vehicle crashes, risky substance use, excessive opioid prescribing, and drug overdoses. Major duties in the role of a lab research scientist include co-management of the scientific aspects of lab research projects including research design, data collection, and analysis, dissemination of research findings in the peer-reviewed literature and scientific meetings, and research grant proposal development.
