The Role

The Marketing and Management Department at Durham University Business School seeks to appoint an exceptional independent PDRA to the Creative Fuse North East 2.0 (fuse 2.0) project with research interests in the broad field of creative business, policy reform, education and the rural economy. This independent post contributes to the research strand of the Creative Fuse that is a partnership between five major University's in the North East and will involve working collaboratively across with our partners in the region to generate new knowledge and bring together existing research about creative work and the technology industries, that will be of benefit to people working in the Creative Digital Information Technology (CDIT) sector. Knowledge of the NE CDIT sector would be advantageous.

Key responsibilities

  • To routinely communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers using a high level of skills and a range of media.
  • To publish high quality outputs including papers for submission to peer reviewed journals, some of which exhibit potential for world-class quality, under the direction of the Principle Investigator or Grant-holder.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and research papers at national and international conferences, under the direction of the Principal Investigator or Grant-holder.
  • To develop research objectives, projects and proposals under the direction of the Principle Investigator or Grant-holder.
  • To identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds.
  • To conduct individual and collaborative research projects with the Principal Investigator or other colleagues in the research group, to identify areas for research, develop new research methods and extend the research portfolio.
  • To deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines by offering creative or innovative solutions to the Principal Investigator.
  • To actively participate in research networks within and outside the University to complete the research project and advance thinking.
  • To participate in appropriate departmental meetings/committees.
  • To lead the research team which is likely to include involvement in the recruitment, induction, and mentoring of early career researchers.
  • To coach and support colleagues and project students in developing their research techniques, giving training in the use of specialist equipment as appropriate.
  • To demonstrate evidence of individual's research having impact beyond their institution.
  • To be involved in administrative activities related to the research project.
  • To contribute to fostering a collegial and respectful working environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect.
  • To engage in wider citizenship to support the department and wider discipline.
  • To engage in continuing professional development by participation in the undergraduate or postgraduate teaching programmes or by membership of departmental committees, etc. and by attending relevant training and development courses.
  • Collating and adding value to existing research about the CDIT sectors equality, diversity and
  • inclusion challenges and skills gaps.
  • Knowledge exchange and innovation requirements that align to ERDF and AHRC outcomes
  • Supporting the delivery of research commissioning activity including theme identification, funding call design and evaluation of research proposals
