- Full-time, Fixed term 12 months. Base Salary: $105K - $118K p.a. Level 8, plus a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation
About the opportunity
As Senior Technical Officer, you will be required to design, deploy and manage Research & Development (R&D) projects in field robotic applications, and engage with industry partners and the public. You will provide systems engineering design and assist the project manager in the planning of technical tasks, management of associated risks, conducting field trials and technical report writing. You will ensure that the workplace is properly maintained, that all equipment is functioning correctly and that preventative work/maintenance protocols are in place for equipment along with being responsible for ensuring that relevant Work, Health and Safety standards of the workplace are met and are aligned to the University's WHS policy.

- tertiary qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field
- demonstrated experience of data analysis, technical report and proposal writing skills.
- proven ability to work without supervision, communicate effectively to both internal and external stakeholders, coordinate technical staff activities in the design, development and deployment of mechatronics and robotic systems.
- demonstrated experience in conducting and coordinating field trials of robotic systems with external industry partners.
- excellent attention to detail and awareness of issues related to dealing with commercially sensitive or confidential information.
- excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with proven conflict resolution skills
- sound working knowledge and acute awareness of WHS regulations and operating procedures within the field laboratory environment including well-rounded experience in implementing relevant safety procedures.
- previous experience in a similar research organisation, higher education/tertiary sector or at a complex, multi-faceted organisation will be a plus.
The ACFR is based in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME) at The University of Sydney, and is dedicated to the research, development, application and dissemination of field robotics principles and intelligent software. The ACFR is the largest robotics and automation research group in Australia and is also one of the largest of its kind in the world.
The group has substantial experimental facilities including three laboratories and a field test site, a range of experimental and production vehicles, industry-quality mechanical and electrical design and fabrication facilities, and employs the latest in embedded computing, sensing and control technologies.
The ACFR has established several major research projects with industry and government clients in areas including agriculture, intelligent transport, mining, space and STEM. These projects focus on the translation of applied research into the user context.
