Job Description Summary

The primary function of this Research Specialist C position is to 1) Perform scientific experiments using a variety of techniques including use of cultured cells, transfections of plasmids and lentiviral constructs, molecular biology techniques including preparation and maintenance of DNA constructs, DNA and RNA purification, PCR and RT-PCR, restriction digest, gel electrophoresis and sequencing, protein biochemistry including purification, immunoprecipitation and Western Blotting. The position requires routine use of flow cytometry for scientific experiments. The position requires mouse colony husbandry and maintenance. The position requires planning, troubleshoot and carrying out experiments with limited supervision. 2) The position requires laboratory management including set-up and maintenance of supplies and equipment, laboratory purchasing, including obtaining quotes from sales representatives and selection of optimally priced laboratory reagents, and maintaining the inventory. 3) The position requires assistance with regulatory aspects of laboratory operations including maintaining laboratory safety protocols, organization and disposable of various laboratory chemicals and reagents, and assistance with maintaining IACUC protocol.

Job Description

Cell culture using primary mouse and human cells and transformed cell lines, including cell line maintenance, cryopreservation, transfection, and related experiments 15%

Molecular biology techniques including plasmid preparation, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and RT-PCR, sequencing, restriction digest, genotyping 10%

Protein biochemistry, including protein expression, purification, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, proteomic analysis 15%

Flow cytometery and related techniques 10%

Mouse colony maintenance and genotyping 20%

Laboratory set-up including equipment and supply ordering new laboratory set-up, assistance with laboratory space clean-up and setting up of equipment, basic laboratory maintenance, purchasing 25%

Perform additional duties as assigned 5% A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field and two year to 3 years of experience is required. The successful candidate will have at least two years of research experience in a biology laboratory. The successful candidate must be dedicated and reliable, and should be familiar with a variety of cell and molecular biology techniques. Ability to work independently, keep accurate and detailed scientific laboratory records, to be efficient at multitasking and troubleshooting, and to work effectively individually and as part of a team are a must for this position


Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience in research, clinical study, project and people management or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
