Kingston University is a dynamic, modern institution. Ranked within the top 50 of the Guardian’s 2020 University Guide, it has a strong focus on student experience and employability. Four faculties across four campuses are host to nearly 17,000 students of whom over 3,500 are from outside of the United Kingdom. The estate has recently benefitted from significant capital investment which has included the development of a £50 million landmark building that is transforming the student learning experience and bringing the University closer to the community.

The School of Engineering and the Environment is located within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing. Led by Professor George Haritos, it comprises of four departments:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Aerospace and Aircraft Engineering
  • Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction Management
  • Geography, Geology and the Environment

Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace students are taught at Roehampton Vale while Civil Surveying and Construction management students as well as Geography Geology and the Environment are taught at the Penrhyn Road Campus. All students enjoy particularly strong links with industry via Advisory Boards and other professional bodies. They also have access to incredible facilities such as a Learjet Lab, wind tunnels, CNC and fabrication labs, automotive, fluids and concrete labs and opportunities to be involved in initiatives such as the School’s race teams.

The School of Engineering and the Environment is incredibly ambitious for its students and as such, it is investing in further enhancing its teaching and learning provision. The extent to which the curriculum and focus of its courses at both under-graduate and post-graduate levels provide students with the skills and knowledge to meet the future needs of industry is critical.

Candidates should have an academic background in one of the School’s subject areas. She or he will be passionate about the student perspective and share in the vision for the School to provide a truly world-class experience. A deep understanding of academic quality assurance is required, as is knowledge of employability within the context of STEM subjects. The human aspect of this post is critical in that colleagues throughout the School and beyond will be sharing the transformational journey. As such, candidates should have strong influencing skills and be able to win hearts and minds.
