Position Focus:

Support current research programs within Yale Medical School Section of Endocrinology performing and assisting in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro studies preparing IACUC protocol modifications as needed, rat infusion studies, liver slice incubations, and mitochondria isolation and incubation.

Position will be responsible to perform designated laboratory duties: ordering lab supplies, maintaining lab stocks (scint vials, GC-MS supplies, transfer pipettes), chemical waste pickup, and MilliQ up keep.

Essential Duties

  1. Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques.
  2. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities.
  3. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus. Modifies equipment according to experimental specifications.
  4. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May monitor hazardous work areas and laboratory safety. Prepares related reports. May prepare financial information and monitor budgets.
  5. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated ability with the operation of analytical instrumentation within the laboratory, primarily, but not exclusively, COBRAS MIRA biochemistry analyzer, and LC-MS/MS & GC-Mass Spectrometers.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated ability handling data processing, data entry, database updates and invoicing. A minimum of intermediate level proficiency with MS Word and Excel.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven ability with biochemical and molecular laboratory skills.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to handle receipt of requests for services to support research of multiple investigators. Ability to set priorities to maximize efficient use of resources.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Strong communication skills with the proven ability to interact with researchers to explain analytical methodologies and interpretation of data.
