Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Environmental Remote Sensing in the Research Division for Earth and Planetary Science and the Research Division for Ecology and Biodiversity (Ref.: 500083), to commence on September 1, 2020 for two years.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences, Ecology, Geography or related fields, and experience in remote sensing data processing and interpretation.  Those with experience in LIDAR data processing are especially desired.  They should also have a research track record including publications in peer-reviewed journals as corresponding author, and demonstrated interpersonal skills.  Applicants with an interest in geoscience and/or ecology would also be considered.

The appointee will work under the supervision of Dr. Joe Michalski and Dr. Tim Bonebrake. He/She will join a diverse research group with expertise and interests spanning a wide range of interests, and work on the project involving a) LIDAR remote sensing of the Hong Kong area to understanding structure, geomorphology and hazards; b) LIDAR to assess biomass distribution and forest ecology; and c) nighttime visible remote sensing to quantify light pollution and effects on ecosystems.

The appointee will have the opportunities to supervise graduate students (M.Phil. or Ph.D.), develop teaching skills and participate in grant-writing to secure additional funding if so desired.  Opportunities will also be given to participate in international conferences and workshops, mentoring, training, and other forms of professional development.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
