To support this journey, the University is now seeking to appoint an Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS).

With almost 4,700 students, this is a large and successful Faculty. FHMS is home to talented staff and students across its four Schools of Biosciences and Medicine, Health Sciences, Psychology and Veterinary Medicine, whose world-class research, learning and teaching capabilities are enabled and enhanced by focussed, well-resourced facilities.  Its mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of humans and animals and their environments through new knowledge and its application to the design, development and delivery of responsible innovation and impact.

The Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor will direct the work of their Faculty, fundamentally driving forward the delivery of excellence through innovative and entrepreneurial approaches. Reporting to the University’s Provost, and a member of the University Executive Board, the postholder will provide influential, strategic and operational guidance to the Faculty. Leading by both personal example and relationships, they will strive to ensure that excellence permeates all activity within the Faculty, whilst contributing to pan-university activities defined by the broader strategic objectives set by the Executive Board. A pioneering leader, s/he will possess strong academic credentials in a relevant discipline; have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and will be able to identify, develop and deliver strategies that will enhance the Faculty’s positioning and impact, ensuring that these strategies are embedded within the University strategy and vision.
