The CTEM provides a focus for the design and engineering of advanced thermal energy systems and components.

This post is connected with a range of activities within the CTEM, with particular emphasis on two projects funded by EU H2020 and British Council evaluating thermodynamic performance of steam plants and utilisation of turbine exhaust for desalination and/or absorption chillers. These projects involves partners in EU and non-EU countries. The Key objectives for these projects are explained within the job description.

You will join a successful multi-disciplinary team and will play an active role in this environment, adapting to changing work patterns and needs.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) in Engineering; Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Renewable, Industrial or similar area. You must also have proven experience in steam turbine thermodynamics, as well as significant experience in using steady-state thermodynamics packages or related and experience in developing bespoke models that time steps the plants operation throughout a typical year, leading to production of research reports or academic papers, as well as ability to find appropriate solutions to academic and technical problems.

To succeed in this role you will have a high level of programming skills, especially in global system models, and the ability to design novel configurations. You will also need excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills and good technical writing skills, to communicate complex information clearly to partners so that they can use the developed thermodynamic models for their novel configurations.
