Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon grant funding.

Job Description

Research at GTP requires knowledge of multiple scientific disciplines including molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry, virology, immunology, bioinformatics, and biotechnology. Our major goals are to increase scientific knowledge in gene therapy field through the use of experiments, and help develop new life-saving treatments. Research performed at GTP ranges from basic research to development of platform technologies to development of the vector manufacturing methods to conducting pre-clinical research. Our research is carried out using cell and animal models.

The Research Specialist C will be involved in planning, conducting and analyzing experiments aimed at development of new gene therapy methods & applications. Research Specialist will provide technical support to enable our laboratory to function effectively and will adhere to standard procedures and guidelines. You may perform sample collections, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing of results. Research Specialist will carry out experiments under the management of a supervising scientist to allow senior scientific personnel to concentrate on the more complex analytical processes in the laboratory.
