Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences (Ref.: 500133), to commence on September 1, 2020 for two years, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in genetics or developmental neurobiology, or relevant fields.  They should have a strong background in using model organisms to study the genetic basis of neuronal differentiation and circuit formation, and a good publication record in relevant field.   Those with research experience in the nematode C. elegans and skills in proteomics and Calcium imaging would have an advantage.  Applicants should also have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, the ability to conduct research independently, and trouble-shooting and effective collaboration skills.

The appointee will carry out investigations in the field of developmental neurobiology using C. elegans as a model system and applying various genetics, proteomics, and imaging techniques to study the mechanisms of neuronal differentiation and circuit assembly, as well as neuronal aging.  Potential projects include developing methods for neuron type-specific proteomics profiling, studying mechanisms that regulate protein homeostasis during cell fate decisions and neuronal morphogenesis, and investigating the mechanisms that instruct the formation of electrical synapses in neural circuits.  The information about the lab research can be found at www.zhenglabhku.org.  Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Chaogu Zheng at cgzheng@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
