The Department of English at Lingnan University offers a distinctive BA (Honours) Contemporary English Studies programme. We aim to develop our students’ strengths in a range of areas that are important for the contemporary world, including creativity, communication, intercultural awareness, and analytical skills. As part of the University’s strategic plan to develop new programmes and strengthen its culture of high-quality, innovative teaching within a liberal arts setting, we would like to recruit an experienced Assistant Professor of Teaching or Associate Professor of Teaching.

General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years of relevant teaching experience, with demonstrable evidence of excellence in classroom teaching, course development and curricular innovation in a university setting. As a teaching-track faculty member, the successful applicant is expected to teach a variety of required and elective courses, and to play a leadership role in programme development and teaching innovation. Evidence of contributions to the scholarship of teaching, in the form of teaching-related publications and conference presentations, will be viewed positively. Applicants who have experience of working across the disciplines of linguistics and literature will be especially welcome. The successful applicant will also be expected play a leading role in the design, delivery, and management of a new Master’s programme, and will lead the Department’s efforts to make appropriate and innovative use of technology in teaching. The teaching load will normally be eight courses per year, with some remission available for major administrative and programme development roles.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for a period of normally up to three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment.
