Job Description Summary

The University of Pennsylvania Libraries’ Teaching, Research, and Learning Services (TRL) directorate seeks an energetic and innovative individual to direct the Penn Libraries’ Weigle Information Commons (WIC). The WIC Manager will coordinate the use of the study spaces and classrooms and oversee the day-to-day operations in WIC, including managing student and intern staff. They will develop and implement student and faculty-facing programming around technology and digital literacy for WIC. The person in this role will support using technology in course assignments, providing tutorials, workshops, and instructional design in collaboration with faculty, students, and other librarians. Reporting to the Director of Learning Innovation, this person will cultivate WIC as an inclusive and innovative hub for learning within the Penn Libraries.

Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the daily space operations in Weigle Information Commons, including managing student workers and interns. Contribute to assessment of facilities and technology for maintenance and strategic development. Designs and implements student and faculty-facing programming around technology and digital literacy for the Weigle Information Commons. Manages the use of our classrooms (Collaborative Classroom, WIC Seminar, Goldstein) including faculty orientations, assessment, and teaching collaboration. Supports and fosters using technology in course assignments, including providing tutorials, workshops, and instructional design, collaborating with faculty, students, and other librarians. Maintain current awareness of trends in educational and instructional technology. Participate in the Libraries’ initiatives, events, and planning in these areas. Engage actively with the community; seek opportunities for collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • MLIS or equivalent degree/experience
  • Professional experience in higher education, academic libraries, and/or working with faculty
  • Demonstrated experience with technology in the classroom (AR/VR, multimedia, and social media)
  • An inclusive approach to interactions and spaces, a commitment to accessibility
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty, students, staff, and members of the general public
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience managing students in a higher education setting preferred
