Job Description Summary

Assist the Dean of First Year Students/Director of Academic Advising and the College advising team as a guide for College students (approximately 6,000) and as contributors to records and data management.. A key part of this position is to serve as a core member of the academic crisis management team (CaseNet) that coordinates services and programs for students in academic or personal difficulty including providing support and referrals, and assistance with communications. CaseNet members directly and proactively support students experiencing challenges that can impact academics via crisis response, case management, and referrals. The CaseNet team provides specialized academic advising, guidance on time away from and returns to school, and support regarding academic standing. Provide advice, clarification and interpretation of the rules, regulations and procedures of the College and other University divisions to students, parents, faculty members, and to external constituencies. Also involved is participation, as assigned, in the activities of one or more of the advising working groups. Responsible for working with complex administrative applications and processes involving web applications, desktop databases (FileMaker Pro), and Excel.

Job Description

DUTIES:

  • Act as a case manager; provide short and long-term support for students experiencing acute and ongoing academic, wellness, and personal challenges, including students who are on academic probation and students who are taking time away from and returning to school.
  • Provide advice, clarification, and interpretation of the rules, regulations, and procedures of the College and other University divisions to students, family members, faculty and staff members, and to external constituencies.
  • Manage school communications and administration regarding leaves of absence and returns from time away; provide status updates to faculty, advisors, and students.
  • Support for CaseNet’s data monitoring projects such as CPN reporting, as well as organizing meetings, conferences and special events with partner offices which are part of the College’s programming for at-risk populations
  • Contribute to the advising education efforts, meetings, conferences and special events with partner offices.
  • Conduct data analysis projects; collaborate with senior staff in implementing College-wide assessment initiatives designed to enrich advising and case management
  • Notify faculty and relevant campus partners of student emergencies; as appropriate, request that faculty offer extensions, make up exams, and/or other allowances for academic obligations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Experience directly supporting students experiencing academic and personal challenges, as well as handling sensitive information strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required
  • Understanding of and appreciation for a liberal arts curriculum.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines required
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and collaborate on projects required
  • Substantive experience working with complex web applications, enterprise-level FileMaker Pro solutions, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, calendaring, email, and web browsers. 
  • Eagerness to grow technology skill set and a passion for new projects and challenges.
