FACILITIES MANAGER, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to manage the operations of DMSE buildings, including building maintenance, construction and renovation, event support activities, security, and staffing; and serve as departmental lead for all facilities operations and IT maintenance.  Responsibilities include ensuring 24/7 operational coverage; managing relationships with multiple MIT facilities and environmental health and safety (EHS) support units; monitoring routine maintenance, space upkeep, emergency repairs, furnishings, moving/storage, capital improvements, facility design and construction, and EHS issues; relaying shutdown and emergency notifications; serving as DMSE representative to the Office of Campus Planning for the improvement/development and master planning of DMSE facilities; managing renovation and improvement projects; serving as a departmental resource to a range of campus services/offices; developing operational and strategic plans; defining procedures/systems related to facilities maintenance, IT maintenance, and space changes/usage; analyzing and making changes/recommendations regarding departmental space usage; developing and managing budgets; ensuring safety, security, and compliance for department events; overseeing IT consultant, planning departmental IT technology solutions, and ensuring preventative maintenance of IT and A/V equipment; and performing other duties as requested. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in facilities management or related field; at least three years’ relevant experience; in-depth understanding of building systems; experience with project management and dealing with building facilities, systems, and construction; and proficiency with computer hardware and standard software.  Must be able to interact/communicate with a diverse community of faculty/staff/students/facilities’ staff/architects/engineers/contractors; manage multiple concurrent tasks; and work both independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.

 PREFERRED:  understanding of local building codes, experience with lab operations and renovation, and an understanding of EHS compliance and lab safety. Job #18610-8
