Position Focus:

The Research Associate manages several integrated research projects interfacing directly with principal investigators and oversees activities of research assistants and fellows.

  • Manages data base and ensures high data quality standards.
  • Develops standards of operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring institutional compliance.
  • Develops and oversees implementation of operations and procedures for the collection and verification of data sets originating from behavioral, electrophysiological, and eye-tracking studies.
  • Develops and manages research data base and oversees data entry and quality checks.
  • Prepares and submits data to the NIH National Database for Autism Research (NDAR).
  • Performs queries, combines and pre-processes datasets and contributes to early stages of data analysis.
  • Generates reports on study progress, directs weekly research staff meetings. Supports lab members in implementing sustainable lab practices.
  • Interfaces with the grant pre- and post-award personnel at the CSC.
  • Supports research staff in grant preparation and management; prepares and maintains the IRB protocols.
  • Trains, supervises and supports research assistants in implementation of the research procedures from data collection, entry, to quality control checks.
  • Supports research assistants by providing training and appraising performance.
  • Support research staff in preparation of research reports, conference, abstracts, presentations, and manuscript preparation.

Essential Duties

  1. Coordinates and carries out the overall research process and provides critical operational support to the program.
  2. Performs independent research, participates in research planning and investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions. 
  3. Collaborates with the Principle Investigator in the design, testing, implementation and evaluation of survey instruments as necessary. 
  4. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of the Principal Investigator(s).
  5. Prepares research protocols and materials; schedules project meetings and monitors the project timeline adjusting as necessary.
  6. Manages all project/research data collection, files, and sharing. 
  7. Develops educational materials, forms, questionnaires and writes procedure manuals for program.
  8. Performs literature reviews and contributes to manuscript writing and publishes articles for peer-reviewed journals; presents research progress and findings.
  9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Well-developed problem solving, analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously in order to effectively complete tasks in a timely manner.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

The ability to manage databases using statistical analysis software such as SPSS or SAS.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven program management skills with the ability to support research staff in grant preparation and management, and IRB protocols.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Coding ability with a familiarity using METLAB, R and/or Python.
