Role Description

Cranfield has been a global leader in the research, development and practical application of aerospace technology since 1946. Aerospace is in our DNA – and we are still the only University in Europe with access to our own airport!

Our people are our most valuable resource and everyone has a role to play in shaping the future of our university, developing our learners, and transforming the businesses we work with. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here. Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Our Masters programmes attract students from around the world, drawn by the combination of academic excellence and strong industry focus. Our work embraces the entire spectrum of aviation, helping to define and deliver the Aircraft of the Future, the Airport of the Future, the Airline of the Future and Airspace Management of the Future.

Our long and close relationship with business is perfectly illustrated by our new, world-leading Aerospace Integration Research Centre (AIRC). Co-funded by Airbus, Rolls Royce and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, this £35 million collaboration between industry and academia provides focus in the development of breakthrough solutions that will radically change the design of air vehicles of the future.

This appointment is co-funded by Airbus D&S and you will be expected to develop new research within the current Space Engineering Group in the field of Advanced Space Mission Concepts and associated technologies. You will be a thought-leader of international standing within the world space systems engineering community, being fully research active, with the ability to draw in large national and international research projects and strengthen Cranfield’s international reputation for excellence in space and defence systems engineering in particular.

You will have the background and experience to gain credibility as the leader of a dynamic world-class capability committed to excellence in research and teaching.

You will be educated to doctoral level in a space engineering related subject and have experience of management research using both qualitative and quantitative methods. You will already have an excellent world-class research track record in space systems, evidenced by high-profile publications in the top peer reviewed journals, books and research reports.

For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Antonios Tsourdos, Director of Research for SATM / Head of the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems on +44 (0)1234 75 8578 or +44 (0)1234 750111 Ext. 8211 or (E);  a.tsourdos@cranfield.ac.uk

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role.
