Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine is a global leader in veterinary education, research, and clinical care. Founded in 1884, the School is a proud member of the One Health initiative, linking human, animal, and environmental health. http://www.vet.upenn.edu/
The laboratory conducts stem cell research and consists of four main research laboratories and a large animal colony to support the research. This position will manage the many functions of the office and laboratory.
The position will provide administrative support which includes but is not limited to: creating and maintaining lab and office records, handling the completion of mandatory forms, providing review of budgetary documentation, monitoring and filing budget records, handling orders for lab supplies and equipment, handling incoming phone calls and inquiries, handling most of the written correspondence for the lab. Assistant will occasionally handle travel arrangements and reconciling expenses. The lab consists of one full professor who will manage this position. Lab also includes two to four Research Associates/Postdoctoral Trainees, one Research Specialist, and two Animal Research Technicians. This position will be responsible for providing administrative support to all positions but will primarily provide support for the Lab’s faculty supervisor.
Experience working in an academic setting with faculty members is preferred. Thorough knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite is required; knowledge of macOS is useful. Familiarity with University research lab systems and administration is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with all staff and all levels associated with lab. Must be detail oriented and pro-active in daily work and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and must be able to work independently as needed and have a strong work ethic. Some experience with budget or finance is preferred.
High School diploma or GED is required; Associates degree and 2-3 years of experience is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
