Start date: June 1st (or as soon as possible thereafter) 
Hours: 36 hours per week (to include occasional evening and weekend work) 
Leave: 23 days per annum, plus University Closure Days and Bank Holidays

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Widening Participation & Outreach team at St Mary’s University, Twickenham for up to 12 months (maternity cover). Based at the university’s leafy campus in Twickenham, you will report to the Widening Participation & Outreach Manager, under the Head of Widening Participation. You will also work closely with colleagues within the Centre for Teaching Excellence & Success, academic and professional staff across the university and our talented and diverse team of Student Ambassadors. 

You will take responsibility for the design and delivery of St Mary’s Post-16 widening participation outreach projects, in order to help fulfil commitments within the University’s Access & Participation Plan (APP). You will also work collaboratively with external partners to deliver outreach programmes for the local NCOP (recently rebranded as Uni Connect). 

You will lead on the design and organisation of a series of sustained interventions to support learners from underrepresented backgrounds, particularly those aged 16 – 18 years old. To support this, in collaboration with other colleagues, you will recruit, train and manage student mentors, who will be deployed in the classroom to serve as coaches for sustained attainment-raising projects. You will also work closely with expert colleagues in order to develop a suite of study skills sessions, subject tasters, and HE information sessions for young people. 

During this time of working from home as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, the successful candidate will be expected to respond flexibly and creatively, to engage with the team remotely, design and deliver content through a variety of different technologies and media and establish and maintain meaningful relationships with a wide range of colleagues and partner institutions. 

We are seeking candidates with strong relationship management skills, excellent organisation and project management skills. We are a team that works closely to achieve our overall goals, with a strong collaborative ethos. You should have experience of delivering engaging and age-appropriate content for young people.
