Established by the Hong Kong Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong today is the largest self-financing university in Hong Kong and has developed into a dynamic, innovative, full-fledged university comprising 6 Schools. 

The University began offering full-time programmes since 2001 and joined the Joint University Programmes Admission System (JUPAS) since 2007. Currently, the University offers about 200 programmes of studies with over 10,000 full-time and 9,000 part-time students in its 5 Schools namely School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, School of Nursing and Health Studies and School of Science and Technology. In addition, there are about 2,000 full-time and 3,000 part-time students studying in Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE).

Assistant Professors / Senior Lecturers (Creative Arts) (Ref. No.: 200009G)

Applications from qualified scholars in the following three areas of Creative Arts including:

  1. film production, TV and video production, script writing and film studies; 
  2. photography, computational art and graphics, installation art, interactive/immersive digital art, virtual reality (VR/AR), dynamic simulation and procedural modelling; and
  3. creative writing, creative advertising and media design.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee(s) shall mainly be responsible for the followings:

  • Planning, development, coordination and delivery of courses (including classroom and/or studio teaching) in Creative Arts at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Undertaking/engaging in academic research and/or creative production activities; 
  • Undertaking/engaging in scholarly and professional activities; 
  • Participating in School/University activities and administration; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Dean (A&SS) or his/her nominee(s).

Requirements

Applicants are expected to possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

  • An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline with relevant teaching/professional experience (preferably including programme and course administration);
  • Record of research and peer-reviewed publications, involvement in professional and community services & activities; 
  • Teaching experience with an interdisciplinary approach will be an advantage; 
  • A good command of English and Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua) ; and
  • Forward thinking in terms of programme development, familiar with the industrial practices, and knowledgeable about local and international educational standards in the professions.

Applicants established practicing artists with a strong record of experience in creative work and research but without a doctorate will be considered for the post of Senior Lecturer.

Compensation Package

Competitive compensation package including basic salary, end-of-contract gratuity and discretionary incentive (if any) will be offered to the right candidate.
