Job Purpose

The BPP School of Business and Technology is recruiting for an Academic Engagement Officer. The post holder will be responsible for engaging with students who regularly fall below the minimum requirement of engagement at the school. This means reviewing attendance data on a regular basis and taking appropriate action to ensure that the students attendance record improves. The post holder will also be responsible for making follow up calls with students who have not submitted or sat assessments, ensuring that the numbers in this area decreases. The post holder will be required to work closely with others within the wider team, reporting on student engagement and attendance issues. You will also be involved with all student engagement events, including social events, induction days, registry and all other engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regular review of attendance data and taking appropriate action in line with student engagement processes
  • Regularly contacting students who fall below minimum requirement of engagement
  • Reviewing and chasing student engagement with finance team over outstanding debt
  • Follow up calls with students who have not submitted or sat end of term summative assessments
  • Coordinating the school student disciplinary process working with the Programme Leaders and Directors of Programmes
  • Updating student “at risk” register and regular reporting to the senior management team
  • Working with the Personal Tutors to refer students who are struggling academically following review of “at risk” register
  • Working with learning support team by signposting students who require mental and wellbeing support.
  • Coordinate with the Programme Leads the termly SSLC's (Staff Student Liaison Committee) meetings and appropriate follow up actions.
  • Working with the Campus Experience Manager and Students Association to deliver engaging student events at school locations
  • Assisting with the co-ordination of induction days and other welcome events
  • Any other related duties as required by the school

Candidate Criteria

Ideally you are educated to degree-level, however applications from candidates with appropriate and relevant work experience or other equivalent qualifications will also be considered. You must have experience in coordinating operational processes as well as experience of working within a service delivery environment working towards KPI's and SLA's. You should have demonstrable experience of commitment to improving service delivery and customer satisfaction. The ability to manage complicated operational challenges. You must have excellent written communication skills with great active listening skills, as well as have the confidence in speaking over the telephone and face to face. The ability to be firm whilst displaying empathy to successfully engage with others is essential. Excellent computer/IT skills as well as presentation skills are a must. The ability to work well in a team and be collaborative is key.
