IT INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER, Haystack Observatory, to provide support in a diverse environment whose mission is to carry out cutting-edge research in radio sciences. Will be responsible in diagnosing and resolving IT issues; configuring and deploying new desktops, laptops, and servers; performing and monitoring system backups; performing system security monitoring and patching; assisting with developing and maintaining documentation; and serving as a backup during absences and in the event of an emergency. Will also support, fabricate, and deploy research-related data gathering devices (hardware).  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline; five years of experience working with a computer network and/or in a user support role; knowledge of computer hardware/software concepts; proficiency with Linux in both server and desktop configurations; familiarity with Windows 7 and Mac OS X; experience diagnosing PC hardware issues; strong analytical skills; ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of users with varying levels of computer knowledge, work independently, manage competing priorities, and work successfully in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

 PREFERRED:  an understanding of networking concepts, system virtualization, cloud services, scripting, automation, A/V media, web services and applications, and agile methodology.  Job #18657-8

Haystack is located in Westford, MA.

Must be willing to travel to the Cambridge campus for classes and meetings and occasionally to observatory research sites.
