Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Biomedical and Tissue Engineering in Dentistry in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 499850), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure after satisfactory completion of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction.  The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate dental education, which is internationally renowned.  The Faculty’s strategic research themes are Biomedical Engineering and Biofunctional Materials, Oral Microbiome and Health Initiative, Population Oral Health, and Smart Health Technology and Potentially Malignant Oral Disease.  The high quality of the Faculty’s teaching and learning, clinical services and research excellence have won global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Number One Ranking by the QS World University Ranking by Subject in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange activities as well as in dental and oral health research, and promotions in international, regional and local communities.    

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences or Tissue Engineering, or its equivalent.  They should also have (i) definite promise for quality research; (ii) proven ability or definite promise in teaching; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) participation in knowledge exchange activities. Applicants who demonstrate evidence of international recognition and a strong record of scholarship; and a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publication record and external grants are highly desirable.  The appointee is expected to establish an innovative and well-funded research group in regenerative dentistry, and establish active collaborations with internal and external partners.  He/She will participate in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing subsidy will also be provided as applicable.
