With offers of BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, BSc (Hons) in Analytical and Testing Sciences, MSc in Analytical Chemistry, MPhil (by research), and PhD degrees, the Department presently has around 190 undergraduate students, 60 taught postgraduate students and 50 research students and project staff.

The Department places a strong emphasis on both quality education and scholarly research/services, and has reached a significant milestone where its educational programmes are not only innovative but also accessible, and its major areas of research strength are well recognised and supported.

Assistant Professor (PR0202/19-20)    

The Department invites applications for the position at Assistant Professor level. The appointee is expected to conduct independent research and also to develop interdisciplinary collaborations.

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry or equivalent. They should have relevant post-qualification experience in research, an excellent publication record in peer-reviewed international journals as first and/or senior authors, an established track record in obtaining external funding/research grants on a competitive basis. The appointee will be required to supervise MPhil and PhD students, establish a vigorous research program at the cutting edge of cancer drug development and engage in other scholarly activities, such as organization of conferences/seminars, etc. He/She is expected to demonstrate research accomplishments of originality and depth with the potential to be an international scientific leader in the area of anti-cancer drug development. He/She is also expected to transfer academic knowledge into innovative technologies for impactful research outputs.

Preference will be given to those with the background of and/or expertise in cancer biology, drug development, lipid metabolism, molecular biology, and viral immunotherapy.

The position is non-tenure track with initial appointment on a three-year fixed-term contract. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
