About University

The newly-established Khalifa University of Science and Technology (KU) combines the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI), the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR) and the Petroleum Institute (PI) into one world-class, research-intensive institution, seamlessly integrating research and education to produce world leaders and critical thinkers in applied science and engineering. Khalifa University endeavors to be a leader among research intensive universities of the 21st century, while catalyzing the growth of Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s rapidly developing knowledge economy.

Brief Description

To provide high quality research support and undertake internationally competitive research aimed at publication thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University.

Since the Postdoctoral, experience is transitional to becoming an independent researcher or faculty member, the Postdoctoral tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor. These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda, the ability to organize and teach a class or a course if more inclined towards a teaching career.

Detailed Description

Fractures have direct influence on fluid circulation in hydrocarbon reservoirs. Therefore, getting information about fractures such as their orientation and density is crucial for assessing the quality of the reservoirs and for well drilling control. Some seismic attributes have been successfully used to obtain fractures orientation from reservoirs located in Abu Dhabi oilfields. Furthermore, seismic wave attenuation attribute showed a high potential to distinguish between open and close fractures.

Getting information about fractures such as their orientation and density is crucial for assessing the quality of the reservoirs and for well drilling control. Some seismic attributes have been successfully used to obtain fractures orientation in reservoirs located in Abu Dhabi oilfields.Furthermore, seismic wave attenuation attribute showed a high potential to distinguish between open and close fractures. The successful candidate will take the lead of investigating fractured reservoirs by using seismic wavevelocity and attenuation. He (she) will more focus on estimating the anisotropy of seismic velocity in fractured and saturated media. This is in order to assess the link between the anisotropy and the properties of fractures such as their aperture and conductivity. In addition to that, results related to seismic wave attenuation anisotropy, which will be obtained by the principal investigator of the project (Dr. Fateh Bouchaala), will be combined with seismic velocity anisotropy in order to get more insight about the relationship between fractures properties and anisotropy.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in Geophysics or related fields. Experience in mechanical anisotropy, numerical simulation and programming (Matlab, C or Fortran) are necessary. He is also expected to have very good written and oral communication skills, to present results at national and international conferences and to publish in high quality international journals

Required Experience

  • PhD freshly graduated is accepted
