The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) seeks to fill an postdoctoral research position that will be based at our Princeton, NJ location with some travel out of the country required. The purpose of this position will be to advance PPPL’s program in the use of lithium vapor to absorb divertor heat flux, and dissipate this heat widely.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates responsibilities will involve:

  • Collaboration on a lithium vapor box divertor experiment at Magnum-PSI in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
  • Development of lithium vapor control technology at PPPL.
  • Simulation of a lithium vapor box for testing on NSTX-U.
  • Conceptual design for the NSTX-U experiment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in plasma physics or relevant materials science.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with liquid lithium and/or lithium vapor is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

Some travel to Eindhoven, Netherlands, required.
