(Level C) $121,256 – $139,445 per annum plus an employer contribution of up to 17% superannuation may apply

The University of Adelaide is looking for a dynamic academic with demonstrated expertise in the fields of biological, biochemical or bioprocess engineering. Our new state of the art laboratory will enable high quality research to be undertaken to meet the next generation of challenges in biopharmaceutical development and production. It will also be equipped to work on aspects of food and beverage engineering, and development of agricultural biotechnology products. The candidate will be expected to use their initiative and develop their own research programme to meet the challenges of the future.
Using your excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills you will be expected to develop multi-disciplinary research activities across the University and internationally, leveraging your Bioprocess engineering expertise in fields which may include but is not limited to therapeutic proteins, vaccines, industrial enzymes, or DNA vaccines.
Collaboration with key stakeholders internally and external to the University is a key component of the role and you will be expected to achieve key outcomes on a multidisciplinary scale within the school, broader university community and external partners within industry and government agencies. Leveraging your bioprocess engineering expertise, you will bring with you established industry connections and use these to build partnerships and key collaborations.
You will contribute to teaching of the next generation of students, assisting with the development and delivery of a new leading postgraduate curriculum focussed on bioprocess engineering for production of biopharmaceuticals. Demonstrated experience in bioprocesses including but not limited to fermentation, cell culture, chromatography and/or tangential flow filtration is highly desired. Experience in teaching undergraduate or postgraduate students would be essential.

To be successful you will need:
- A PhD in chemical engineering, biological engineering, biotechnology or related applied science.
- Demonstrated high level experience in leading a research program in fundamental and/or applied areas addressing current bioprocessing industrial challenges.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills within the academic setting but also to a broader audience outside of the university.
- A strong track record and H index related to quality research in the field of processing of products of biological origin; may include therapeutic proteins, vaccines, industrial enzymes, or DNA vaccines; as evidenced by research publications in leading journals and conferences or equivalent industrial experience, achieving the highest levels of scholarship and/or application in engineering research relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of modern pedagogy principles as well as experience in the successful development of undergraduate/postgraduate curriculum that meets the needs of industry ready graduates with a strong track record of teaching at an undergraduate/post graduate level that focuses on the student experience.
