Job description

The School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW) seeks to appoint a Professor of Education to make a substantial contribution to the research and teaching activities of the School, to provide academic and research leadership in Education, and to enhance the School's international links and research capabilities. The successful candidate will provide leadership and support to a strong group of academics and support the vision for Education at Queen's as a key part of the School's development.

The successful candidate must have as follows:

  • PhD in Education or a cognate discipline.
  • A sustained record of research publications of international excellence in high quality and internationally recognised journals
  • Proven track record of attracting and supervising research students
  • Evidence of major external research activities including securing grant income 
  • Research Profile that complements the research priorities of the School.
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality UG and PG teaching that complements and enhances the School's teaching activities 
  • A strong record of PhD supervision
  • Evidence of strategic academic leadership in research, programme development, teaching and management. 
  • A clear vision on future research and development plans and how they would benefit the School, Faculty and University. 
  • Evidence of ability to strengthen the School's national and international research and development networks.

SSESW is dedicated to making a social difference and training the next generation of Educators. This School brings together a wide range of scholarly, professional and applied subjects including education, social policy, social work and sociology, and has 1,625 students and 80 academic staff.
