We invite applications to join our integrated teaching, research and innovation teams in the Networks and Cybersecurity Centre (NCC) as a Lecturer in Digital Forensics. We embed digital forensic principles and practices into our computer forensic and cybersecurity courses on undergrad and postgrad levels. You’ll be joining a well-established course-team with a proven track record of producing skilled and confident graduates who are ready to meet the demands of the digital forensics industry.  The teaching objective is to equip students with a range of digital forensics skills that will boost their employability at the end of the degree. The research-and-innovation objective is to enhance the reputation of the School both through excellent research publications and research supervision and through impactful projects that advance the practice of digital forensics.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Use appropriate learning, teaching, support and assessment methods.
• Teaching as a member of the Networks and Cybersecurity centre in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures.
• Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material.
• Select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
• Ensure that module design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University.
• Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research projects (as appropriate).
• Engage in scholarship as required to support teaching activities and continually update knowledge. 
• Extend, transform and apply knowledge applied from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities including knowledge generation, knowledge exchange and knowledge transfer activities.
• Conduct individual research or work on collaborative research projects.
• Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research.
• Engage in collaborative partnerships and contribute to the University’s work in influencing leading edge practice.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Hold a PhD or be willing to work toward achieving a PhD in an area related to Digital Forensics
• Applicants will have demonstrated excellent teaching in higher education or have presented regularly to technical audiences in an industry setting.
• Comprehensive working knowledge of computer forensics and network forensics (including network traffic and device evidence, wireless network analysis and Active Directory techniques). 
• Skills in using a range of digital forensics examination tools such as EnCase and FTK, in addition to network analysis tools such as Wireshark and Kali Linux are essential; skills in programming using Python or .NET languages are strongly desirable.
• Excellent team working and communication skills.

Desirable

• A proven knowledge of computer and digital forensics.
• Practical and theoretical knowledge of data storage and recovery techniques.
• Good working knowledge of common computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOS and well as mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS is highly desirable.
• Practical knowledge of common computer file-systems such as NTFS, exFAT, FAT, ext3/4, HFS+, APFS etc. is strongly desirable.
• Digital forensics related industrial certification in FTK, EnCase, EC-Council, .XRY or other professional digital forensics tools would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of cryptographic and steganographic principles and techniques. 
• A proven research record, including publications, is advantageous.
• Candidates should display a thirst for knowledge and academic learning in the context of real world challenges and a strong desire to see their theoretical work applied in solving impactful problems. 
• A record of research funding bids and partnering across their areas of practice is advantageous.
