Post-doc in Artificial Intelligence for Leuven.AI

Leuven.AI is one of the first four KU Leuven Institutes, making artificial intelligence a focal point of research at KU Leuven. Leuven.AI unites AI and its renowned AI experts at KU Leuven in an interdisciplinary institute with societal relevance. It fosters AI research by providing a forum for exchanging ideas and for initiating projects and collaborations on AI. It fosters AI education by offering courses and contributing to education programmes, and it offers expertise on all aspects of AI, including on the possibilities and limitations of AI and its implications from an ethical, legal and societal perspective. 

Leuven.AI, the newly founded KU Leuven Institute for Artificial Intelligence, seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher, who will play a key role in the Institute. 

On the one hand, the post-doctoral researcher will be involved in the development of novel AI applications and in valorization of AI across different disciplines at KU Leuven. On the other hand, the post-doctoral researcher will assist in building up the Institute and its activities.

Responsibilities
The post-doctoral researcher will occupy a central position in Leuven.AI, and will be involved in carrying out the plans for the newly founded Institute. This will involve contributing to research on AI and its applications in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team of Leuven.AI,  to the implementation of various activities of Leuven.AI, as well as to the Leuven.AI profile and its organizational structure.  

More specifically, this includes the following activities :

  • You identify opportunities for AI and its applications across different disciplines at KU Leuven. You initiate research ideas, participate in research on these topics, and assist in acquiring and coordinating research projects on such topics.
  • You publish research results, conduct lectures and participate in relevant meetings on a national and international level.
  • You follow and assess relevant developments within artificial intelligence, especially those at KU Leuven. 
  • You cooperate with the many research groups that are involved in Leuven.AI, as well as with corporate services (such as the KU Leuven Research Coordination Office and Leuven Research and Development).
  • By attending and organizing conferences, workshops, courses and meetings to AI, you expand Leuven.AI’s network in academia, in industry and society.
  • You acquire deep knowledge of the scientific, organisational,  and educational aspects of AI at KU Leuven.
  • You contribute to a coherent and compelling vision and strategy for Leuven.AI. You help with the implementation of the activities and strategy of Leuven.AI.
  • You cooperate and interact also with those responsible for educational activities and programs related to AI.
  • You support the management of Leuven.AI and you promote Leuven.AI both internally and externally.
  • You provide a point of contact for Leuven.AI for questions regarding science, education and society and you are able to channel these questions.

Profile

  • Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence.
  • Knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence research, preferably in multiple subfields.
  • Experienced in developing AI applications, preferably across multiple disciplines.
  • Affinity with working in an interdisciplinary setting.
  • Experience in project acquisition and management, and in education is an asset.
  • Outstanding communication, networking,  organizational and management skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a research team. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and oral. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.

Offer
We offer a 3-year position  (renewable after each year) as a post-doctoral researcher at the newly founded KU Leuven Institute on Artificial Intelligence, which is at the forefront of research and education on AI, and belongs to one of the best universities in Europe.
