Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Computer and Information Sciences
Faculty of Engineering and Environment

The Department of Computer & Information Sciences is based in a brand-new, purpose-built, £7m building at the heart of Northumbria University's city centre campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, providing a stunning environment for students and staff. The majority of our research in Computer Science ranked world-leading, or internationally excellent, in the last UK wide research assessment exercise (REF2014, UoA11), when the University achieved the biggest rise in research power in any UK assessment of research quality ever.

The Department itself has research strengths in AI/machine learning and visual computing, networks and cyber security, HCI and social computing, data science and information systems. The NCSC and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) jointly recognise Northumbria as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR). Applicants who can strengthen one or more of these areas are encouraged to apply; however, we welcome applications from any relevant area of computer or information science and particularly encourage applicants who are working at the intersection(s) of computing and other disciplines.

You will contribute to the Department to further enhance research, teaching and enterprise.  This will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching &learning activities, undertaking individual and collaborative research to generate high-quality academic publications and inform teaching, and participating in external activity to generate income and promote the Department and its subject areas.

You must hold a first degree and be qualified to doctoral level in a relevant discipline, with your specialist knowledge gained through research activity, professional practice or consultancy. A proven ability to deliver high-quality research and teaching is essential, together with an appropriate publication profile and track record of bidding for external income.

For informal enquiries about this post, please contact the Head of Department, Professor Shaun Lawson, shaun.lawson@northumbria.ac.uk.
