Zeppelin University invites applications for the position of a

Chair of Communication Studies with a Focus on Risk Communication (Full Professor)

within the Department of Culture & Communication. The position is to be filled at the earliest possible opportunity.

ZU is seeking to appoint a scholar who should represent the discipline of communication studies in teaching and research in its full breadth and depth.

We are looking for candidates with outstanding records in research and teaching in the field of crisis and risk communication. The successful applicant should have a background in the social and cultural sciences and ought to have worked extensively in the area of strategic and organisational crisis and conflict management in and between national, European or international organisations, e. g. the economy, science or politics.

As the candidate is expected to contribute to ZU’s method-training-program, we expect her or him to have in-depth knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods of social and cultural research. 

Within its strategic framework, ZU is creating sustainable, high-profile research areas by establishing the following research clusters: Arts Production and Cultural Policy in Transformation; Computational Social Science; Decision Research; and Governance of Global Cooperation Networks. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to one of these research cluster. 

The successful candidate will have an outstanding international research profile, demonstrated by articles in peer-reviewed journals and publications with recognized academic publishers, a track record in soliciting third-party research funding. In addition, the appointee should be committed to teaching excellence in the university’s bachelor, master and doctoral programs, particularly in the areas of research-based learning and project-based teaching. 

The appointee should have an interest in interdisciplinary research and teaching and will be expected to contribute to the acquisition of research grants. He or she will be expected to participate in university self-government.  

As per Article 47 Landeshochschulgesetz BW (state higher education act) eligible candidates shall have a relevant Master (or equivalent), a PhD and a distinguished record of post-doctoral research and teaching, a successfully completed habilitation (or a full professorship) or a Junior-Professorship with positive final evaluation or equivalent research and teaching achievements.
