About the opportunity 

Education-focused is a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. As a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer (Education-focused), you will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within  the Education Enterprise and Engagement team. This position will put you on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery. You will be expected to dedicate up to 80% of your academic workload allocation to education.

  • a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to their discipline
  • deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by leading team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings, including interdisciplinary ones
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.

About us

This position is within the Education Enterprise and Engagement unit in the office of the DVC Education at the University of Sydney.

The DVC Education Portfolio supports the development and implementation of the University’s strategy and vision for teaching and learning and students’ educational experience. The portfolio contributes to institution- wide developments aimed at improving student learning, including the University’s approach to curriculum renewal, new thinking in pedagogy, learning and teaching in analytics, eLearning and quality assurance for learning and teaching. Its primary functions include: professional learning and support for educational excellence and innovation; academic enrichment through curricular and co-curricular programs, and strategic, policy, analytics and administrative support in implementing and monitoring the University’s vision for learning and teaching.

The Education portfolio has been charged with the responsibility of developing a significant commitment to project- based learning within the curriculum, including: the development of problem based, issues-based, and case-based learning within the curriculum, and also in project work; the expansion of internships and practicums; expansion of opportunities for real and virtual site-visits and field trips; and engagement with clients in the form of simulations and role plays. The Pro Vice Chancellor (Education-Enterprise & Engagement) will provide academic leadership in this area and will be required to focus on the education issues and provide education focused expertise in the development of industry partnerships. The Interdisciplinary lectures with the support of the Education Enterprise and Engagement portfolio, develop and implement the curriculum for Industry and Community Projects units.
