The Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education includes the School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences and the School of Education. The Faculty aspires to lead through academic excellence in learning and teaching, research and engagement with the professions and industries; and to influence public policy, professional practice and community life across its diverse disciplines.
About the role
The Head of School is a key leadership position within the Faculty. The position reports to the Dean and has a close working relationship with all members of the Faculty senior leadership group. The position leads the School in achieving the objectives of the University strategic plan, and goals of the Faculty. The position has four broad areas of responsibility: (i) Leadership and Strategy, (ii) Teaching and Learning, (iii) Research; and (iv) people management.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have relevant qualifications with an outstanding academic record. They will be familiar with the requirements of a leadership position in the higher education sector, particularly one with a strong focus on growing online education. Ideally, they will have a strong grasp of the emotional and interpersonal components of such a role, including an understanding of academic culture as well as the ability to lead change and model resilience throughout the Faculty. In this role a strong ability to motivate, lead, coach and mentor staff constitutes one of the key skills,as does an ability to liaise and influence at all levels.
