Job Description Summary
Under limited supervision, purify recombinant proteins, manage the lab and perform other experiments investigating mechanisms of mitotic chromosome segregation.
Job Description
Duties for Research Specialist B:
- Express and purify recombinant proteins from bacterial and insect cultures using GE AKTA purification system.
- Prepare novel DNA constructs with modified genes (truncated, tagged, with site mutations, etc.)
- Order and maintain supplies, equipment and other lab stocks.
- Manage waste disposal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Duties for Research Specialist C:
All duties listed above plus the following:
- Participate in other on-going experiments including microscopy and computer image analyses.
- Design and write protocols.
- Analyze data and write lab reports.
- Present data at conferences and meetings.
- Prepare scientific reports and manuscript submissions.
Qualifications for Research Specialist B:
Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years previous laboratory experience required. Experience with advanced protein biochemistry required. Computer skills with Microsoft Office, required. Must maintain excellent records and communicate effectively with other lab members.
Qualifications for Research Specialist C:
Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years previous laboratory experience required. Master’s Degree preferred. Extensive experience with advanced protein biochemistry and molecular biology methods required. Expertise in designing and purifying recombinant proteins required. Computer skills, including with Microsoft Office, required. Must maintain excellent records, have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.
