The Faculty of Health at LJMU plays a key role in a variety of health agendas, regionally, nationally and internationally. We seek to recruit an exceptional individual to this new post to lead the Faculty’s research and innovation strategy, inclusive of the operational responsibility for the Public Health Institute (PHI). The Faculty, comprised of PHI, the School of Nursing and Allied Health and the School of Psychology, has an active and robust research portfolio. A new and ambitious strategy requires an inspirational, innovative and enterprising academic to lead and enhance our performance in research and innovation.

LJMU and the Faculty of Health is a member of the Liverpool Health Partnership (LHP) and works actively with Liverpool City Council and the Combined Authority to address health and social care inequalities in Liverpool and the region. The Faculty is also central to the University’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

PHI is a leading international centre for public health research and is working to consolidate its national and international reputation.

Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor – Health, you will play a key role in the strategic development of the Faculty, providing scientific leadership to a large team. You will have deep knowledge of the fundamental principles and emerging trends in health research and a strong background of research excellence in an area relevant to the Faculty.

With over 4,000 students and 250 staff, the Faculty specialises in Astrophysics, Maritime and Mechanical Engineering; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Built Environment; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. We have one overarching Engineering and Technology Research Institute and we are the coordinating Faculty for three cross-university groups: Open Labs, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Lairdside, which provide the platforms for inter-disciplinary partnerships on a range of emerging initiatives and funding opportunities.

The Faculty is poised to make a real step-change in the way that academia
works with business, we have entered into a new partnership with the maritime industry to create a unique global knowledge hub to bridge the shortage of skills in the engineering and maritime sector. The hub will be further strengthened by a new Manufacturing Technology Centre to build knowledge and understanding about the manufacturing technologies.
