VACANT POSITIONS FOR SPECIAL SCIENTISTS - MOLECULAR BIOLOGISTS

The Molecular Medicine Research Center of the CY-Biobank Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus has two vacant positions for Special Scientists (Research Fellows), for research and coordination, funded by the research program: Center of Excellence in Biomedical Research – “Biobanking and the Cyprus Human Genome Project (CY-Biobank)”, which is co-funded by the European Commission, the Republic of Cyprus and the University of Cyprus.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree or equivalent
  • Documented knowledge of molecular biology and genetics, experience in molecular diagnostic techniques & methodology and ability to develop independent research and administrative work
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Next Generation Sequencing DNA Systems and the classic Sanger Sequencing methodology
  • Excellent knowledge of the Greek and English languages

Applicant’s Profile:

Have knowledge and research experience in the field of human genomics / genetics, but candidates with valuable work in the biological and medical sciences are encouraged to apply.

The candidate should be creative, enthusiastic and passionate about research. Candidates do not have to be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. A candidate with prior experience in writing and submitting research proposals under European research programs will be preferred (FP, Horizon 2020, or other relevant), which also has documented administrative and capacity-building capabilities under the supervision of a Programme Coordinator. Bioinformatics knowledge and ability to analyse genome-wide sequencing results will be evaluated as an additional qualification.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Development of experimental and administrative activity aimed at complementing existing research programmes and developing new ones, in the field of human genomics and genetics with emphasis on genetic and hereditary diseases. This activity will include developing and offering specific diagnostic tests for genetic diseases.

It is expected that the candidate will be active in writing and submitting research proposals in Cyprus and abroad to enhance her/ his research activities and the Center's activities in general, either individually or as a group.

Terms of employment

The position will be for full-time employment with a 3-year contract, and potential for renewal. The monthly salary cost to the Programme will be commensurate to qualifications and previous experience and ranges to the maximum of € 3,000. The employee will be required to pay from his/her salary both, his/her and the employer’s contributions. There is no provision for a 13th salary.
