About the position

We have a vacancy for a PhD position at the Language Acquisition and Language Processing Lab, Department of Language & Literature, NTNU. The successful candidate will work on a project investigating spontaneous synchronization to speech from a developmental perspective and will be hosted by the LALP Lab. The successful applicant will benefit from networking within the MSCA ITN Early Language Development in the Digital Age (e-LADDA).

Main duties and responsibilities

Qualification requirements

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Science or related fields. A background in psycholinguistics, child development, statistics, neurophysiology/EEG/ERPsor speech science is strongly appreciated.

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. Applicants must have a strong academic record from their previous studies and must have a weighted average grade for the last two years of their master's or equivalent education equivalent to a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be admitted only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree.

Applicants must demonstrate that their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English is sufficiently high for them to derive the full benefit from training within the PhD project.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

Salary and conditions

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 479 600 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Expected start of contract: August, 2020

The period of employment is 3 years. Appointment to a PhD position requires admission to the PhD programme in Language and Linguistics at NTNU.

As a PhD candidate, you undertake to participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period. A condition of appointment is that you are in fact qualified for admission to the PhD programme within three months.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
