Job description

Lecturer in Financial Services - Full time, Perm

We're looking to expand our Financial Services provision in response to the significant changes in the financial sector particularly in the areas of financial technology, data analytics, cyber security and artificial intelligence as well as the growing regulatory requirements.

As a result, we are seeking to appoint a lecturer in the area of banking, asset or wealth management or financial services risk management with strong quantitative skills, although consideration will be given to outstanding candidates in other fields of financial services.

Edinburgh Napier University is a leading, modern university with a reputation and impact that stretches far beyond our shores. We are an inclusive University with strong links to industry and an 'applied' focus that sets us apart.

About the school

The Business School is one of the largest modern Business Schools in Scotland and at the leading edge of innovation, with a strong academic reputation in undergraduate, postgraduate, executive education, and business research. It has an established track record of a high level of engagement and collaborative working with business and professional networks.

You will join the Finance Subject Group although you may operate across several Groups including Accountancy and Management. We offer undergraduate and post-graduate degrees, both on campus in Edinburgh, and in Hong Kong and mainland China.

The role

You will be appointed to one of the following academic pathways; ResearchProfessional Practice or Learning & Teaching, responsible for developing, designing and delivering teaching and student centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice, within your assigned areas of responsibility. You will engage in programme development, alongside supervising dissertation students. The opportunity also exists for the right candidate to undertake a high profile programme leadership role.

You will be required to conduct individual and collaborative research projects, contributing to the research profile within your School, leading to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes. You will also contribute to the University's objective of growing our academic reputation for research-informed student learning.

There are opportunities to teach in China and Hong Kong so this role will be ideal for someone who likes international travel, cultures, and this role presents opportunities to develop your own research area.

Who we are looking for

In addition to the role profile, the following criteria are essential:

  • A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of an academic research profile, alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and learning practice and experience.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in specialism to develop high quality teaching/ learning and research projects.
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Some travel will be required as part of our transnational education provision.
