  • Full-time, fixed term until December 2022 with a possibility of extension and a base salary of $94,000 p.a., plus leave loading and a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity 

As the Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will contribute to the overall research efforts of the Brain and Mind Centre/ ForeFront research team.

This role works with the support and guidance of more senior academic staff to develop their research profile and education proficiency in the field of genomic/epigenomic research in neurodegenerative diseases, characterising single-cell epigenetic profiles of the human brain and developing cell-free DNA diagnostics.

About you

  • a PhD in the field of molecular biology/ bioinformatics and expert understanding about genomics and epigenomics
  • advanced knowledge of state-of-the-art bioinformatics approaches to analyse Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets and programming experience
  • experience in programming languages Linux, R and Python
  • a background ingeneral molecular biology techniques including cell-sorting (FACS), nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation for NGS, single-cell sequencing
  • experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments
  • knowledge of human and mouse brain neuroanatomy

The Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) at the University of Sydney was established to integrate clinical and basic neurosciences research in Australia. The BMC is committed to discovery, innovative and integrative research strategies, and clinical product development- thus directly benefiting people whose lives have been affected by psychiatric and neurologic illness.

The ForeFront research group comprises recognised leaders in clinical, pathological and biological research who together aim to identify earlier detection of and treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, and to understand their underlying disease mechanisms. The researchers study frontotemporal dementia, motor neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia and Alzheimer’s disease along with healthy ageing using well established clinical and basic research techniques in both cross-sectional and longitudinal study designs.
