The University of Portsmouth is a dynamic and ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, it is also ranked 21st in the 2020 Guardian League Table University Guide, and 113th in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The Institute of Criminal Justice Studies is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful and growing applied criminology research profile. Within the subject area, the Institute is currently ranked 5th place nationally in the Guardian Course Guide for Criminology and the University has been awarded Gold within the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The University is aiming to be the top modern University and the Institute will make a significant contribution towards achieving this aim.

Our highly successful innovative criminology course provision will be sustained, but complemented by further growth in our postgraduate student community. This will cover campus-based, distance learning, and postgraduate research students in areas aligned to our research strengths. To support our strategy we are seeking to recruit to a wide range of academic posts in a number of specific subject areas as set out below.

This post will be based at the University of Portsmouth.
